How To Soundproof Your Blender 8 Different Ways

I recently bought the Ninja Blender to because I love having my protein shakes in the morning. This is by far one of the best blenders I have ever owned but the Ninja blender noise level will surprise you! Therefore I decided to figure out how to quiet a blender and will share my research and experimentation here.

How to soundproof a blender? Here are 8 tricks I stumbled upon on how to reduce blender noise:

  • Reposition your blender
  • Put a towel underneath your blender
  • Place your blender on a rubber mat
  • Use a silent blender
  • Soundproof the surrounding wall
  • Buy a sound enclosure
  • Build your own sound enclosure
  • Combine sound enclosure & rubber mat

This article will detail these eight ideas that actually worked to soundproof my blender. If you can’t stand the noise then try applying a few of these tips to quiet your blender.

#1 Reposition Your Blender

If your blender is up against the wall or close to one, try moving it away from it. The sound your blender generates can easily bounce off the wall amplifying the noise level. Moving your blender towards the middle of your counter, away from the wall, will actually help to reduce the noise.

#2 Put A Towel Underneath Your Blender

Decoupling is a way to dampen noise and reduce vibration.  One of these easiest ways to do this is by placing a thick towel between the surface and your blender. The towel will help to absorb sound instead of allowing vibrations to reverberate off your countertop. Any hard surface will amplify noise. Covering it with a thick material will absorb the sound from your blender motor.

#3 Buy A Rubber / Silicone Mat

This tip is similar to using a towel previously mentioned. Instead, use a rubber bar service mat. Not only will this reduce vibration but also protect your countertop or bar top. A rubber mat helps to decouple the noise by dampening the vibration sound of your blender motor.

#4 Invest In A Silent Blender

If the noise is really an issue for you, your kids, or your neighbor, then invest in a quiet blender. The Quiet One by Vita-Mix is the perfect silent blender. You will be surprised how quiet it actually is. Your ears will thank you later.

#5 Soundproof The Surrounding Wall

If you have a designated location for your blender, consider installing soundproof foam tiles on the walls around its location.  This will help absorb noise and reduce the echo being produced from your blender’s motor. You can easily install these light foam pieces using double sided command tape strips, which I explain how to set up in my post on installing acoustic foam panels efficiently.

#6 Buy A Sound Enclosure

To reduce the loud noise being emitted from your blender, you need a way to decrease or block the noise being transmitted through the air to the rest of your room and home. You need something heavy and dense. The more mass, the better. You need a way to enclose your blender to prevent the sound from escaping. You need is a blender sound cover.

If you have a Vita-Mix blender, make sure to check out this Vita-Mix cover to reduce sound. Make sure this model fits your blender.

You can also buy a sound enclosure box if you have one of those blenders. Again, you need to make sure this product fits the model you own.

*I found it very difficult to find a sound enclosure box that fits my Ninja so I researched how to create a small soundproof box

#7 DIY Sound Enclosure For A Blender

You can easily create a soundproof box for your blender with a little bit of patience, research, and some materials. You can use wood, cardboard, or plastic and line it with some dense, thick material to trap and dampen the noise being produced. You simply cut a box slightly bigger than your blender. Leave one side open so you can operate the buttons. For the Ninja, you need to make sure the top of the box is tall enough to place your hand on top of the container. I came across this article on how to create a soundproof box that should give you a good idea or outline to create your soundproof enclosure.

#8 Combine Sound Enclosure & Surface Decoupler

If you want ultimate silence, try combining both a silicone or rubber mat and a sound enclosure. This will reduce vibration on your countertop and prevent sound from reverberating through the rest of your room.

What to expect

Do not expect complete silence from your blender when applying these tips and tricks. These solutions will only help to dampen and reduce the noise to a more tolerable decibel level. Remember, you want to use material that is thick and dense so it absorbs sound.
