Have a newborn that you don’t want to wake during their naps? There are a few things you can do to ensure he or she can rest peacefully.
Having trouble figuring out how to soundproof a baby’s room? Here are some effective solutions you can implement today to reduce noise and keep your baby happy:
- Install a solid-core door
- Dress up the room

Not only does soundproofing your baby’s room provide a nice quiet place for your baby to sleep without having to shush everyone in your household but it also prevents your baby’s cries and whimpers from echoing throughout your home.
Step 1 – Install Solid-Core Door
The doorway is one of the largest openings in your baby’s room. The best way to immediately quiet any noise is to replace the hollow door with a solid-core door. Hollow doors allow too much sound to leave and enter. You can test it by having a conversation with someone through the door. You can easily hear what they are saying.
When you replace it with a solid-core door, you will barely be able to hear noise on the other side of it. Usually, Lowe’s or Home Depot carry these type of doors for around $100.
You can also install a door sweep to reduce noise. There is typically a small space between the floor and the bottom of your door. Step 2 – Dress Up The Room
Don’t forget about dressing your nursery walls with quilts and fun artwork as these do a great job of absorbing sound. Incorporate decorations, furniture, and area rugs especially if the floor is a hard surface. All of these objects reduce echo to some degree.
You may also want to experiment using wallpaper. This textured wallpaper on Amazon may play a factor in deadening the noise in your baby’s nursery. Step 3 – Install SoundProof Curtains
Typically people purchase soundproof curtains with the intent of keeping noise from entering the room. Contrarily, soundproof curtains do not actually block sound very well. They are much better at deadening sound and reducing echo.
Installing thick material such as soundproof curtains prevents noise from reverberating in your baby’s room. This material soaks up any sound stopping it dead in its tracks. You won’t notice any noise bouncing around like you would in a long, empty hallway.

If your baby’s room is next to your bathroom, living room, or another room that tends to become busy, you can build a second layer of drywall over your existing wall. This drastically reduces sound by creating a second barrier and increasing overall thickness and density that sound has to travel through.
You can also install a second door if your doorway is big enough or if there are two entrances to your baby’s room. Since this is how most of the sound enters the room, adding a second solid-core door will have a huge impact in reducing the noise.
Step 6 – Use a Soundproof Baby Crib
